April 15, 2025
Dear Parents and Students,
Today we begin our eighteenth annual MMS Walk Against Hunger campaign to benefit Families in Transition. This year’s Walk Against Hunger will be held on May 23, 2025. The event begins with a brief presentation ceremony in the gym where we will present the funds raised to officials from Families in Transition. The walk will begin immediately after. The past eighteen campaigns have netted over $100,000 for Families in Transition. Some of our families that are new to McLaughlin may not be familiar with Families in Transition. Families in Transition is a non-profit organization which provides affordable housing options, food programs, integrated case management, emergency homelessness services, and substance use treatment. They operate 365 days a year and provide many services to those in need.
Students are asked to seek sponsors who will make a donation to Families in Transition in support of the students’ effort to raise funds for this worthwhile organization. On May 23rd, students will complete their commitment by walking around the perimeter of our building for one hour as a demonstration of their support for the compassionate work of Families in Transition. In the past our student body raised in excess of $10,000 for this organization. Please help your child by suggesting individuals who may want to support this effort. The minimum amount a student needs to participate is $5.00. All participants bringing in $10.00 or more will receive a complimentary t-shirt. Last year, we had nearly 100% participation in our student body. Sponsor sheets are available in every homeroom and on our school’s website. A sponsor sheet is also printed on the back of this letter.
We encourage everyone to donate by check, as all donations are tax deductible.
Checks should be made out to Families in Transition (Not McLaughlin Middle School). Families in Transition Federal Tax ID#:02-0475414.
Thank you in advance for your support of this annual community service event!
Sincerely,
THE MANCHESTER MIDDLE SCHOOLS WALK AGAINST HUNGER COMMITTEE
