8th Grade Happenings

2019 - 2020

Washington D.C. Trip - Click here for the flyer.

You have the opportunity to go to Washington, DC over April vacation. Attached you will find some information regarding this trip. If after reading the description you would like an application to go on the trip, please see Ms. Davison (Room 2214-Upstairs Gold) for the official application. All questions should be directed to Gina McGuiggin who is coordinating this trip. Her contact information is below:

Good Morning,

I apologize for such confusion with the trip but with the uncertainty in today's climate I want to have as accurate information as possible. We are working on a different date for the trip so children do not lose out on this opportunity, as with changing dates conflicts do come up. We tried to choose dates that would work with school so students do not miss any more school than is necessary as they are missing a ton currently.

The dates we chose are May 22-25, 2020. We are hoping parents will be flexible on this change so their students do not miss this amazing trip.

I am waiting to hear from my school district if the one day they will be missing will be excused. If there are conflicts with your personal schedule I apologize, I have 180 students on this trip and 18 chaperones and there is a second trip from the two other Manchester schools with over 100 students and 10+ chaperones, so we are doing our best to accommodate the majority of people involved. The tour company is working on securing hotels, buses etc on their end for these dates. We will be assessing continually and come up with a plan for those who have a conflict and chose to cancel. The financial aspect has not been finalized so we do not have any answers or numbers for refunds at this time if you choose to cancel.

If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your understanding,

Gina McGuiggin

April 7, 2020 - West High School

This email is from Manchester High School West.

Looking to join one of our special programs like STEAM, NJROTC, or THEATRE? Maybe you want a smaller learning environment under a block schedule or a place where you can learn outside of school. West is in the middle of a massive redesign to make school better for students. If any of this sounds good to you read on!

Parents and Students of Incoming 9th Graders (CLASS OF 2024) to Manchester High School West from McLaughlin:

This is not the way I would prefer to introduce our school to you and students but the current situation has left us with no other options. Normally, we would have visited McLaughlin and made presentations to them followed by an open house where families could view our facility in a relaxed setting and ask questions of our staff. However, it appears that that won’t be happening anytime in the foreseeable future. (We will have these opportunities if we resume with normal operation.)

So given the current situation we are informing you through this email that it is time for students to select courses for the first year of their high school experience.

To make the job much simpler, I have attached the Program of Studies, Freshman Enrollment Form, and the Course Selection Worksheet for Freshmen. The Enrollment Form can be mailed (9 Notre Dame Avenue, Manchester, 03102 or emailed (llinscomb@mansd.org) to us.

Videos for our NJROTC Program and STEAM PROGRAM are posted prominently on our Website west.mansd.org. Our Theatre Program Video is in process. CHECK THESE GREAT PROGRAMS OUT! The worksheet contains only the courses that freshmen may select. If you wish to read the course descriptions, please refer to the Program of Studies. All of these forms and videos will also be posted on our website.

Use the Course Selection Worksheet to help fill out the form below. In addition, please get guidance from the McLaughlin teachers when selecting levels of core subject area (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) courses.

Ms. Mosley or Mr. Marshall (School Counselors) at McLaughlin can assist you with this process if you have any questions. You can also contact our counselors at West if you have any questions. Their emails are:

Cynthia Bilodeau - cbilodeau@mansd.org - Last Name R-Z

Renee Beaulieu - rbeaulieu@mansd.org - Last Name A,B,D,N,P,Q

Eli Glass - eglass@mansd.org - Last Name G,H,I,J,M

Sarah Doherty - sdoherty@mansd.org - Last Name E,K,L & Special Programs

Alicia Moylan - amoylan@mansd.org - Last Name C,F,O & STEAM Program

On behalf of the faculty and staff at Manchester High School West I would like to welcome the students and families of the Class of 2024!

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any needs, concerns, or questions.
